Welcome to The Butter BarThere is a popular belief in the Army that new Second Lieutenants are always lost. Lost when trying to lead a platoon, lost on how to perform certain military tactics, or even lost trying to find their way home from work. These Second Lieutenants are known as "Butter Bars," a name derived from the appearance of the rank on their uniform. This mentality also pertains to people new to cooking. New cooks often feel lost navigating around the kitchen and often don't know where to start. The purpose of this blog is to help prepare you for your next "culinary mission." Whether you are new to meal prepping, healthy eating, culinary techniques, or cooking in general, let's help you break the stigma of being a culinary "Butter Bar."

"Me Cuisine" Philosophy
Every person in this world is different and has unique tastes and recipes can be altered to accommodate them. I like to call this idea "Me" Cuisine. When I look at a recipe, I mimic the technique (cooking times, temperatures, method, etc.), but I change the flavor profile or ingredients to something that I enjoy. Feel free to do the same thing with the recipes on this site. If you are a vegetarian, then replace meat with different vegetables, or even tofu. If you love spicy food and the recipe doesn't have enough of a kick for you, add more. Like art or fashion, recipes are guidelines that are intended for you to alter to reflect your own taste. Some of the best foods were not created by educated or talented chefs, but from people that were not afraid to make their own culinary boundaries and explore. So embrace your inner chef and make your own "Me" Cuisine. |
